Autumn leaves( koyo ) can be enjoyed in not only mountains but also

big cities like Tokyo.Leaves of maples and ginko turn beautiful crimson

or yellow colors., offering splendid scenery.During the season, Japanese

people enjoy “Autumn Leaves Viewing” ( momiji-gari ) without drinking sake

unlike cherry blossom viewing in spring. Many trees in and around Tokyo

remain colorful until early December.




Below is a list of some of the best autumn color spots in and around Tokyo.



1)Takaosan (Mount Takao)

One of the closest natural recreation areas to central Tokyo.

50-minute train ride from Shinjuku.



2)Rikugienn

One of Tokyo's nicest Japanese landscape gardens built around 1700.

The spacious garden is open for evening illuminations during the peak of the season

A few steps from Komagome Station on the JR Yamanote Line or Namboku Subway Line



3)Tonogayato Garden

In 1929 purchased by the founder of Mitsubishi, Iwasaki Yataro,

a tea ceremony house was addedto a main residence building with

Western and Japanese-style strolling gardens combined.

2 minute-walk from Kokubunji Station on JR Chuo Line



4)Icho Namiki (Ginkgo Avenue)

The ginkgo (icho) is the official tree of Tokyo. The most famous street

in the city lined with many ginkgo located the Meiji-jingu Gaien Park.
